Worms,of like age, is the scene of the Nibelungen poem,and was the residence of the East Frank kings.Its importance as a trading-place is destroyed byMannheim, more conveniently planted on thetongue of land between the Rhine and the Neckar,atown of modern origin, owing its birth to a disputeover a church at Heidelberg between the Elector-Palatine, Charles Phillip, in 1720, and the citizensof Heidelberg.
